REVIEW: The Secret’s Out by Lila Rose

Title: The Secret’s Out

Author: Lila Rose

Series: Caroline Springs Charter, Book 1

Heat Level: Raunchy

Can I just say how much I love menage stories. There is something about them that draw me and this one was awesome. It had everything that I love in a book – moments of joy, angst, sadness and off the charts sexual tension and explosive chemistry but no jealousy. While I have not read any of Lila Rose’s other MC books, this was not what I would call a typical MC read. There wasn’t really any of the grittiness and roughness that you get with bikers. There was no loud parties, loose women and extreme violence. But it was a great read none the less.

Josie has a past that no-one should ever have to endure. The damage that was done has affected every part of her life, leaving her a shell that abhors most human contact. Never does she feel comfortable enough to just be herself and live life carefree. It becomes worse when she moves to Melbourne, away from her family, to attend university. She attracts unwanted attention that turns her life into a nightmare once more. She struggles to find a way out of the situation, but doesn’t want to burden those that care about her.

That is until 2 men from home come to her rescue. Before she left she knew that she had feelings for Caden and Eli but the situation didn’t allow her to act on them. Now that they are there to help her out and protect her, can the 3 of them be honest enough with each other and themselves to find their happily ever after?

This book was a great combination of romance, suspense, angst, turmoil, heartache and absolute joy. The plot moved at a great pace to keep drawing me in to find out what will happen next and how it will all work out.

I love a damaged hero. You know the one’s where something horrific has happened in the past but they have had the strength to overcome it and become a better person? Yeah, well that is Caden “Pick” in this book. My heart bled for him and what he had been through. But the way it dictated the man he had become to be able to protect his girl in this book shone through. While I was expecting this rough and tumble biker, what I got was someone completely different. Sure he was still alpha in his talk and actions, but he was confident and comfortable enough to be and accept who he was. The affection that he had for both Eli & Josie was genuine. It guided much of what he did throughout the book and he was never afraid to show others the way he felt.

One of my favourite type of characters is one that grows into themselves through the love of another. Lila captured Josie blossoming into her true self so beautifully. From shrinking away from any physical contact into a tigeress made it all worthwhile. Josie is best described by one of the boys when they say that she may have been violated but she had an air of innocence that surrounded her. It is through the unequivocal support of those around her that have pulled her through. And by the end of the book, it was the strength that she gained that she was able to become the person she wanted to be.

And finally, Eli. The protector but fun loving guy of the bunch. Even though his exterior and demeanor might be rough, his heart inside is pure gold. The way that he was quick to jump to the defense of those that he loved and held close made me swoon. Even though you could feel the turmoil inside him as he had to make some hard and fast decisions, he was able to come to terms with himself.

And the side characters in this book were awesome compliments to the story. I understand that many have book’s of their own which I will now have to back track and discover. But the way that they were supportive, understanding and loving was endearing.

Geez…there were some scenes in this book that nearly caught my kindle on fire. The passion between these three was off the charts. When Josie really came into herself, there really was no stopping her. What I really loved about this menage though, was that there were times where it was just 2 characters, instead of every encounter being a threesome. This to be boosted the story because we got to experience the chemistry between all the pairings as well as a threesome, which made the whole scenario much more enticing and electric.

Lila’s writing really sucked me in from the first pages. I LOVED that she was able to make me feel the exact emotions of the characters and drew them out of me. I literally smiled when they were happy, cried when they were going through so much turmoil, felt appropriately outraged by situations and HOT when they were getting frisky.

If you are looking for a read that skirts the edges of an MC romance, but really is a book about discovering one’s true self through the love of other and a romance to melt your heart and panties, then this book is for you. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Purchase The Secret’s Out

Moving to Melbourne for university, Josie Alexander knew the transition would be hard. She didn’t realise just how difficult it’d be until things turn ugly. Damaged by a past that leaves her struggling with physical contact, her brave move to start afresh, soon turns into a nightmare.

Afraid and vulnerable, Josie’s fragile independence threatens to unravel around her. That is until the two men who refuse to leave her thoughts show up in Melbourne.

Caden Adams, “Pick” to his biker brethren, has had a hard life. His only light is Josie, who he loses when she leaves Ballarat for Melbourne. Dealing with day to day life without his heart is hard, especially with the darkness threatening to consume him. When MC President, Talon, informs him that Josie’s in trouble, he’s determined to make sure he’s there to protect her. Only, he won’t be doing it alone.

Eli “Billy the Kid” Walker has never experienced love, not even from those who should have cared the most. Only Josie and Caden have ever come close to infiltrating his hardened heart. With Josie gone, he pushes Caden away, unwilling to take a risk, even if it’s something he wants.

When given with the opportunity to prove to each other how they really feel, will they all be able to have the courage to fight for what their hearts desire? Above all else, will they survive the fallout when their secret’s out?
