Like any dutiful Scottish daughter, Libby Stewart puts her family first. She’s spent months helping her brother, a single father, care for his new daughter. The strain of her family commitments led to the painful demise of a two-year relationship. As Libby nurses her broken heart and relishes time with her niece, her father offers her a job managing his hotel. She’s ready to focus on her career and get her life back on track.

Alexander Mathews, a handsome American businessman who is staying at the hotel, has other plans for Libby. She’s taken aback when she meets Alex. He strikes her as arrogant and domineering, but regardless, the sexual tension between them is palpable. Libby fancies herself a good girl, but Alex quickly seduces her. Libby finds she is soon addicted to the passion she feels in Alex’s skillful hands.

Libby had never been so confused. Who is Alex Mathews, really? An international playboy, or truly the man of her dreams? When a confrontation with her ex-boyfriend turns violent and she questions Alex’s loyalty to her, Libby must decide if she wants to let this charismatic stranger from across the pond truly capture her heart.

Review

THIS BOOK HAS EVERYTHING. You would not know that this book was Karen Frances’ debut novel. I love reading new authors, and I love even more when their story captivates you so that you can’t put the book down. This book did not disappoint.

Libby Stewart has a heart of gold. When her family really needed her, she was there without hesitation in any way that was needed. At her brother’s absolute time of need, she is the rock on which he depends. This unfortunately leads to Libby’s boyfriend ending their relationship. She is heartbroken that when he was needed most he bails.

Then her father offers her the opportunity of a life time, to manage the family hotel. Libby seizes the life altering opportunity with both hands. Giving up her life as she knows it, she jumps in feet first to take on the challenge presented to her with grace and determination.

It is at her hotel that she meets Alexander Mathews. Visiting Scotland on a business trip, Alexander is a typical New York Playboy. He is used to getting what he wants without any hesitation. And he believes that this applies to Libby as well. He sets on the path of seducing Libby. But does he want her as a holiday fling, or is there something more brewing? What happens when Libby is confronted by her ex-boyfriend? Does Alexander want to face all the drama by her side? They both must decide if a relationship is what they want.

The chemistry between Libby & Alexander is off the charts hot. There are many scenes in this book that will have you fanning yourself just to cool down enough to get through them.

Libby has all of the qualities that I love in my leading ladies. She is independent, loyal, sassy and doesn’t hold back. It made it even more enjoyable when she took a walk on the wild side with Alexander and set herself free. And in her moments of vulnerability was when she was the strongest. I loved how she made Alexander work for it in the beginning.

And if you are looking for a dominant, douche at times, alpha then you can’t go wrong with Alexander. He knew that he would go to any lengths to be able to get Libby. Being unaccustomed to having to work to win the lady, there are times where he does make mistakes. But throughout the book he does a good job of redeeming himself.

Kirsty, Libby’s best friend, was an absolutely awesome secondary character. There were whole scenes made for me because of her. I hope that we see more of her as the series continues.

As I said in the beginning, this book has everything. Aside from all of the romance and steamy scenes in this book, Karen does an awesome job of investing your emotions in the story. I am not one to share spoilers to the plot so I am going to leave this very vague. There were twists that I did not see coming at all. And the ending cut me off at my knees.

I cannot wait to read book 2 and get drawn further into the story of Libby & Alexander. I have no hesitation in recommending this book at anyone who loves books in the romance genre. Karen Frances has captured a fan in me.
